Terms of use
Last updated : 2026-09-15 · Portraits (iOS)
1. Purpose
These terms govern the use of the Portraits mobile app, general knowledge quiz, published for iPhone and iPad. Downloading or using the app constitutes acceptance of these terms.
2. Licence of use
You are granted a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable and revocable licence to use the app for personal, non-commercial purposes. You may not decompile, disassemble, modify or redistribute the app, nor extract its data or content for reuse in another product.
3. In-app purchases
The app may include in-app purchases allowing you to buy products, services or subscriptions. Billing is handled entirely by the app store from which the app was downloaded and governed by that store's own terms (App Store terms). The publisher receives no payment details.
An in-app purchase can only be consumed within the app, cannot be cancelled once its download has started, and can neither be exchanged for money or any other consideration nor transferred. If an in-app purchase fails to download or does not work, the publisher will look into the cause once informed and, as appropriate, provide a replacement or a fix — at no cost to you. Should it prove impossible to replace or repair the purchase within a reasonable time, the publisher will authorise the store to refund you up to the cost of that purchase.
For any question about payment for an in-app purchase, contact the app store directly.
4. One-off purchase
The purchase offered is a single, non-renewing one: there is no subscription, no renewal and no recurring charge. It is tied to your Apple account and can be restored on your other devices using the same account, at no further cost. Refund requests fall under the store's policy (request a refund).
5. Content and sources
Biographical notes, dates and period attributions are provided for information and educational purposes. Despite the care taken in checking them, they may contain errors, approximations, or reflect a state of historical research that keeps evolving. Any error can be reported to [email protected].
Portraits come from Wikimedia Commons: each image is in the public domain or under a free licence, and its author is credited under the corresponding card in the app. Any rights held over the reproduced works remain the property of their owners.
6. Availability
The app is provided "as is". The publisher does not warrant that it will be error-free or available without interruption, and reserves the right to modify, suspend or discontinue features, in particular as operating systems or the third-party services it relies on evolve.
7. Liability
To the extent permitted by law, the publisher shall not be liable for indirect damages arising from use of the app. Mandatory consumer-law protections remain available to the user in all cases.
8. Intellectual property
The app, its name, visual identity, text and code are protected by copyright.
9. Personal data
Data processing is described in the privacy policy, which forms an integral part of these terms.
10. Governing law
These terms are governed by French law. In the event of a dispute, an amicable solution will be sought before any legal action.
